In Japan they call it "French Marine"
…but here we call it Nautical. Either way, it’s been in my salty blood forever, and occasionally i make something to remind me of that.

Police and Thieves
Hang onto the things you love the most—by hook or by crook. Steal away from the inertia that drags at your heels like millions of tiny anchors all shouting “you can’t” and “you shouldn’t” and “that’s not allowed”. These things turn breath into vacuum, they turn “what if I” into “why didn’t I?”.

I'm A Contributor
The people at Contributor concocted a lovely idea: commission hand-painted vintage-inspired skateboards, auction them off during a multi-week travelling exhibit, and redirect the proceeds toward providing underprivileged kids with skateboards of their own. I loved the idea and enthusiastically joined a really amazing list of artist-contributors. Bidding on the artwork is live online until October 25th, 2009. So get over there and give it up for a good cause!

New York Niceties
Recent Brighton graduate and one-to-watch, Owen Gildersleeve spent some time in New York this past Summer. I met Owen through his classmate Sarah King, who was an intern in our studio and is now covering the earth with her flowing hand-lettered type. On returning to the UK, Owen decided to make a zine about New York, and was kind enough to ask me to contribute. He called it “New York Niceties”. I made a little one-pager about my decision to live where i now live.

Cut It Out
Ever-supportive friend and studio-mate Mike Perry curated a really interesting group show at Open Space Beacon, which if you haven't been, is a terrific little gallery in a terrific tiny town a short-but-picturesque rail ride up the Hudson from NYC. Also home to DIA Beacon, which will provide you with awe and inspiration in equal parts. Anyway, the folks at Open Space provided a lovely environment in which to display things cut with scissors, knives and teeth. As usual, i got in over my head after committing to hand-carving type out of the edge of a ream of copier paper.

We Construct Inner Worlds - New Zine!!!
Born of the compulsion to doodle the City--lots of the City. Finally got that out of my system. Excerpts from a forthcoming sixteen-page B+W zine with color cover, soon-to-be-available at (my ever-prolific studio-mate) Mike Perry's soon-to-be-launched online shop.

Part of It
The talented, dedicated and generous folks behind Part Of It asked me to contribute to the greater good -- in this case, marine pollution research. Artwork above will arrive on their site shortly as a tee and tote. Read more about the cause i chose HERE.

Cloud Forest
How many clicks does it take to get to the center of the universe? This Little Explorer keeps popping up a lot lately. Maybe the part of my brain that lives blissfully free from the burden of linear thought is trying to tell me something.

Harlequin Disastre
The term materialised in my foggy brain while passing a gaggle of Shoreditch Nu-Ravers after a long night at the Old Blue Last.

Another Type Experiment
Of the thin and squiggly sort. The one on the left is a modified version of and old VGC face called Aase, if i remember correctly. Nice open letterforms that were begging to be messed with.

Crosshatch Beard
Something to do with pattern, a self-referential lumberjack, and an unhealthy attachment to the Pacific Northwest.
