NFNF featured on HOW Design
Wow, big day here at NFNF HQ. I just received a lovely email from Megan over at the HOW Magazine Design Blog, letting me know that Neither Fish Nor Fowl has been selected as one of July’s “Top Ten Websites for Designers”. Needless to say, this is fantastic, because i’ve been watching my friends show up in HOW for many years, and now i can finally retire the jealous flag. Heh. Thanks to Megan and the HOW team for the kind mention. I truly appreciate it!

Kitsune Noir - Desktop Wallpaper Project
“Kitsune” means fox in Japanese. I know this because i have Wikipedia at my fingertips, but also because i’ve been studying Japanese for the past 18 months. Foxes of the Japanese sort are considered very wise—to the point of being supernatural. This too can be said of Bobby Solomon over at Kitsune Noir. He is a wise and generous supporter of makers of all sorts, and is gifted with a supernaturally sharp curatorial eye. That’s why i’m super excited to be included in his Desktop Wallpaper Project, where you can get a nice free background for that screen you stare at all day (including iPhone, iPad and PSP – he thought of everyone). Don’t click through just for my sake—click through because it’ll make your day better, and you’ll definitely encounter some inspiring and unexpected beautiful things. (I’m especially fond of his weekly mixtapes.) Thanks Bobby!

In Radiolab We Trust
My praise for Radiolab knows no bounds. Along with This American Life, i believe they’ve single-handedly snatched radio from the jaws of dusty eternity. I know i’m not the only one to admit having been deeply moved by many of their stories, and by the obvious joy they share in producing their labor of love. Really. Since Carl Sagan, i can’t think of a more effective effort to popularize Science (and asking Big Questions)—and every single episode is utterly brilliant. OK, having said that, i was asked by Jez Burrows (one fifth of Evening Tweed and we can talk about THAT awesomeness later) to contribute to the (upcoming) second edition of In Radiolab We Trust: a limited, affordable set of prints by five international artists, designers and illustrators. The version on the left, based on the amazing story of two Laura Buxtons in the Stochasticity episode—was selected to be printed. Net profits from sale of the set go entirely to Radiolab and WNYC, New York Public Radio, so PLEASE go buy some in a month or so when they’re ready. Jad and Robert really deserve the support!

Miss Blighty
Oh how i miss my temporary hometown. So much in fact, that—unlike my utter lack of speed in updating this post—i leapt at the chance to make a London-centric poster for Pedlars. As usual, it’s a 7-colour screenprint produced on recycled stock in a signed edition of 400, framed by Pedlars and available framed at their shop and online HERE. +++ ALSO AVAILABLE UNFRAMED at Three Potato Four, HERE. +++

Bust Magazine
This was a super fun piece accompanying an article about the girl you went to school with that always seemed to know everything about sex…and later you realized was totally inaccurate. Ha. P.S. I love Bust! Help the awesome ladies over there keep the indie dream alive by subscribing and reading every page!

Jamie (Oliver) Magazine
What seems like many moons ago, i was living in London and would occasionally art direct a photoshoot or two at The Shoreditch inside Perseverance Works, which backs up onto an exquisite flat with a ridiculous perfect kitchen that was super photogenic—as evidenced by the fact that Jamie Oliver used to shoot something or other in there and i could peek at the top of his healthy-food loving head from my photo studio balcony. Neither he nor his magazine compatriots knew this when they asked me to illustrate an article about breaking the rules of wine pairing in their January 2010 Issue. Regardless, i loved the assignment and after a little reading can say that my culinary acumen has definitely stepped up a notch.

On Accident
Poster/Mailer for a conference organized by Edward Eigen and Tei Carpenter (thanks Tei!)—held last December at Princeton University School of Architecture. This was a very satisfying opportunity to mash up my new profession with my old one.

Fenchurch A/W 2009
Ah, the long wait for production cycles. Above are a number of tees produced (a while ago), selected and recently released as part of the Fenchurch A/W range. Fenchurch are lovely folks, and hopefully they don’t mind me nicking their photos for this post. Working with them frequently helps me cope with my serious nostalgia for my former all-too-brief residency in London.

Eugene Mirman CD for Sub Pop
I’ve been listening to their releases for so many years, the inside of my ears are pretty much molded in the shape of Sub Pop. When they contacted me to collaborate on the newest release by Eugene Mirman, i was—to say the least—EXCITED. Several weeks later, with Jeff Kleinsmith’s skillful Art Direction, the package began to take shape. The album releases on October 6th, 2009, so please flock to your choice of music sellers to support Eugene’s amazing brain and Sub Pop’s formidable legacy.

Mast Brothers Chocolate - paper wrapper
Oh, man. You might think you’ve tasted delicious chocolate before, but you’re gonna have to rethink what your mouth is telling you. This pair of bearded brothers are quietly obliterating all chocolatiers that precede them. This is a rough layout of patterned paper that will hug their bars of tasty confection.
